How to verify your benefits

Call your insurance using the provided script to verify your insurance benefits and ensure our appointment is covered. You are responsible for knowing and verifying your own insurance benefits. You may still be responsible for out of pocket costs such as co-pays, co-insurance, or late cancellation/no-show fees.

Due to licensure reasons, I am currently unable to see patients in the following states: AL, AR, DC, MD, MN, MT, NE, RI, and SD. If you live in one of these states and are interested in working together, please email kate@yourkidneydietitian.com to provide more information about your request.

Absolutely! The right kidney nutrition plan for you needs to be tailored to YOUR unique needs – including your personal lab results.

Once you book your appointment, you’ll get an invitation to join my patient portal, Practice Better. Within the portal, you will complete the required new patient paperwork. Additionally, you can upload labs or other documents for me to review. Labs can also be faxed directly to my office at 312-646-4120.

Most patients should plan to meet with me at least 3 times: 1 initial appointment and 2 follow-ups over a period of 2-3 months. Many patients work with me longterm, for 6-12 months or longer.

At the end of our first appointment, we can discuss what sort of ongoing support is needed. Each patient’s needs are individualized.

While kidney disease is my specialty area, I’m happy to work with patients with other health concerns. My other areas of interest include: diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, weight management (including patients on GLP-1 medications), plant-based nutrition, and general healthy eating. I only work with clients 18+ at this time.

If your PRIMARY nutrition concern is outside of my wheelhouse (including pediatric nutrition), I’m happy to help you find a provider who’s a better fit for your specific needs. If you’re in Illinois, check out the Illinois Nutrition Experts directory.
